Rose Tutorial and Winner!

I wanted to start off by thanking everyone for becoming a follower!   I began my blog because I love to share what I make.  I was shocked when I saw that I had reached 10 followers, but I just checked and I am now at 100! I can't even believe it!

I am trying to catch up with visiting everyone's blogs.  It's been so difficult because I am now back to work teaching and I am crashing on the couch as soon as I get home! I love teaching, but it is totally exhausting! I'm hoping that things will settle down soon so that I can go on with my crafty evenings at home and so that I will have time to visit everyone regularly again!

Now for my rose tutorial.  I got tons of great feedback on this rose that I made for my cake box.  You can see the original post here. 

I'm showing the first few steps with pictures and the last two steps on a video because it's hard to explain what I mean with pictures only. 

1. Cut out pieces of cardstock at about 4" by 4".  Make sure that they are the color of the bottom of your rose because you are going to be able to see this paper through the petals.  I used green because the base of my rose is green.  

2.   Cut your rose at 5" inches in height.  At this size your rose will be about 2" wide when rolled up. To save some time I cut out four roses at a time.  I didn't have any 12" white cardstock so I cut down my paper to 6"x6" squares. It will look like this when you are done cutting: 

3. I used two colors to ink the edges of my rose.  The bottom edge in green and the petals in pink. Make sure you give the center a generous coating of ink and repeat with the back so that you don't have white paper showing. 

3. Roll it up tight starting from the center.  Cluster the 3 petals at the center together and then roll the rest of the rose around it.  I did this with my fingers.  No need for any quilling tools. 

Then let it go and shape it to the size that you want it to be. 

4. Get some glue.  I would have used a hot glue gun but didn't have one around.  Put a generous amount on the paper and press your rose down.  Hold it down for a couple of minutes.  I used this Tombo adhesive and it held very well. 

While you're holding it down, continue shaping the rose to the size that you will want it to be. You can add some more glue around the loose end to hold it down. 

5. Once the glue is dry, you can cut it out of the green cardstock.  Squish the petals down a bit to give it a more realistic look. 

6.  As you can see the rose looks pretty here.  But I did a couple more things to it to give it a more realistic look.  I made a video to show you what I did.

I have got to say after making this video segment of my tutorial, I am totally impressed by people who make videos all the time!  It was so much work and I was so nervous while filming! It felt like I was talking to a million people, but yet talking to myself at the same time.  I am totally not a video person, so if I sound awkward here you will know why :)
